MONITOR AND DOCUMENT
Strengthening government and corporate accountability by amplifying right to food progress and documenting violations.
Communities have an important role to play in holding our governments accountable for respecting, protecting, and fulfilling our human rights. Local and state governments also have an important role to play in creating and sustaining the conditions for the right to food to be realized in our communities. We work with members and partners to make these roles and responsibilities visible in order to shine a light on key gaps and opportunities.

Our Approach
Amplifying progress and documenting violations to strengthen government and corporate accountability.
Where are we headed?
Greater government and corporate accountability to local communities for realizing the right to food at all levels.
How will we get there?
Amplify and report on the progression and violations of the right to food across the United States.
Motivation
We believe that greater visibility of how people are experiencing the right to food will lead to greater government and corporate accountability to local communities. Committing to monitor and amplify right to food progress and violations over time is part of a multi-level strategy for transforming the food system into one that nourishes people and the planet.

Right to Food in the United States - Briefing Reports (2025)
Periodically monitoring how different aspects of the right to food are being progressed, and what challenges remain
These briefings are designed to be used by advocates working to advance the right to food at all levels - in towns, cities, and states across the country. They are based on the key findings we shared in our submission to the United Nations Human Rights Council’s Universal Periodic Review process in 2025.
Each briefing focuses on a different aspect of the right to food - spanning both the substance of the right as well as processes for making this real. We encourage you to read and share them widely, and to contact us with any questions or ideas for how to use them in your own work.
